Infertility Treatment

Infertility treatment is a medical approach to assist couples or individuals who are unable to conceive naturally after trying for at least one year. Infertility can be caused by a variety of factors, including hormonal imbalances, structural issues, age, or underlying medical conditions in either partner. The type of treatment offered depends on the cause of infertility, and it may involve medication, surgical interventions, or assisted reproductive technologies (ART). The goal is to help individuals achieve pregnancy, and options are tailored to the specific needs of the couple. Early diagnosis, thorough evaluation, and the right treatment plan increase the chances of conception and support reproductive health.

Fertility Medications
  • Clomiphene Citrate (Clomid): A common first-line medication that stimulates ovulation in women with irregular ovulation.
  • Gonadotropins: Hormonal injections used to stimulate the ovaries in cases of low egg production or when Clomid is ineffective.
  • Metformin: Used for women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) to improve insulin sensitivity and regulate ovulation.
  • Progesterone: Given to support the luteal phase of the cycle or during IVF to help maintain a pregnancy.
Surgical Treatment
  • Laparoscopy: Minimally invasive surgery to treat conditions like endometriosis, blocked fallopian tubes, or fibroids.
  • Tubal Surgery: To repair blocked or damaged fallopian tubes.
  • Varicocelectomy: A surgical procedure for men to treat varicoceles (enlarged veins in the scrotum) that affect sperm quality.
Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART)
  • Intrauterine Insemination (IUI): A procedure where sperm is directly placed into the uterus around the time of ovulation. Often used in cases of male infertility or unexplained infertility.
  • In Vitro Fertilization (IVF): Eggs are retrieved from the ovaries and fertilized in the lab before being implanted into the uterus. IVF is commonly recommended for issues like blocked fallopian tubes, severe male infertility, or unexplained infertility.
  • Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI): A procedure used with IVF where a single sperm is injected directly into an egg to assist with fertilization, particularly in cases of male infertility.
  • Egg or Sperm Donation: Used when there are issues with egg or sperm quality, or when one partner has a genetic condition.
  • Gestational Surrogacy: When a woman carries the pregnancy for another couple, often due to medical issues with the uterus.
